Carrie conducted her PhD and postdoc in the Autism Research Centre, in collaboration with the Institute of Public Health, whose team includes Professors Carol Brayne and Fiona Matthews. She has evaluated the CAST (Childhood Autism Screening Test) in a large school based population study, and the the Q-CHAT (Quantitative Checklist for Autism in Toddlers), in a large pre-school population study of 18-30 month olds. She  also developed 'Red Flags' to improve autism screening, based around the adult, adolescent, and child versions of the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ), as well as the Q-CHAT.
